A SHORT GUIDE TO UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD COLLEGIATE BALLS

"Eights" Week Balls (supposedly to celebrate the rowing races) happen during 5th week of Trinity term (May). 3 or 4 colleges have one every year. These usually go on into the small hours.

Commemoration ('Commem') Balls, during 8th or 9th week (June). Again, 3 or 4 (different) colleges will have these in any one year; in those colleges that have them, they occur in a cycle every 3 years or so (so that each student will get the chance to attend at least once during their University career). These go on all night until the following morning, usually providing free alcohol, breakfast in the morning and - of course - entertainments ranging from famous bands and DJs to fairground rides, barbershop quartets and massage.

Please note that tickets to Oxford college balls are usually around £150-£200, and are available to members of the University of Oxford and their bona fide guests ONLY.
