Websites for garden-lovers....

The Eden Project. Vast greenhouse set in Cornish quarry, housing tropical rainforest.

The Living Rainforest, Hampstead Norreys, Nr Newbury, Berkshire. An educational charity providing a genuine,seasonally varied rainforest experience.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Restoration of famous Cornish Victorian garden.

The Kew Gardens website has information about Kew, the services it offers and a facility for asking them questions.

The Museum of Garden History. Articles on the website about aspects of garden history eg. The John Tradescants, as well as information about the museum itself in London.

The Royal Horticultural Society's website: www.rhs.org.uk. An excellent website for serious gardeners. The plant finder contains over 70,000 plants, and the listings of stockists and of gardens is very extensive.

www.gardenpicture.com contains a collection of 5000 photographs of plants, flowers and gardens.

The Friends of the Botanic Gardens in Oxford have their own website, should you share their special interest in the oldest British botanic garden.

There are various gardens, not usually open to the public, that allow visitors only a couple of times a year - more details available at www.ngs.org.uk

A somewhat eccentric site devoted to enthusiasm for old lawnmowers is at www.oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk

There's instant gardening (plus some useful tips) at the BBC gardening pages.

The flower and plant association with tips on which houseplants are good for your health, and how to make your cut flowers last longer is at www.flowers.org.uk

If your gardening aims are a little more exotic, consider a visit to Growing Citrus UK, whose website will advise you on all aspects of establishing your own vitamin C factory.

Even more tropical are the products of www.jungleseeds.co.uk, who will sell you seeds of anything from Eucalyptus trees to Pink Bananas.

Try www.sarracenia.com for all your carniverous plant questions, and The Postcode Plants Database to search by postcode for plants that grow near you.

Less about gardens than the buildings within them, Images of England offers 15,000 pictures of this country's listed buildings. www.greatbuildings.com provides a similar service spanning the entire globe, including interactive 3-D models and heaps of useful information.

If you would like to find out about how you can be nice to hedgehogs and other wee garden beasties go to the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.
